The Situation

An 84-year-old Atascadero man whose wife had recently died hired a handyman who began spending increasing amounts of time at the home, eventually acting as a de facto caregiver. The handyman persuaded the man to add him to the deed on the house and to remove his adult children as beneficiaries on his financial accounts, replacing them with the handyman.
